I’ve had so many people enquire and send me a few photographs asking if I can replicate this style. It is obvious they haven’t looked at my portfolio and are just wanting a generic “one size fits all” photographer. When choosing a newborn photographer it is important to scour through Google and really examine each photographers websites and portfolio. Are they just showcasing their best work? Do they have a wide portfolio? Does their style suit your taste and home? Newborn photography style can really vary to being highly posed (posing the newborn in all sorts of poses when they are asleep) with bright colours and props, highly posed with just the colour white to natural newborn photography that can vary from a classic, clean look to a warmer, darker, moodier, more artistic look.
Each photographer has honed their skill and their style and demonstrate it in their portfolio. It is best to find a style that suits you rather than ask the photographer to change theirs as their work won’t be their best. They have created a style that embodies them and become experts in it so you get the best of the best from them.

Funnily enough, a blog isn’t just written for Google rankings. If done properly, it’s written for you, the client to read! A photography blog is meant to provide helpful tips about sessions, showcase a photographer’s work and their personality. By reading their blog and social media you should be able to learn about the photographer and how they work. On my Instagram I post a lot of work with my children and I in it so you can get a feel for me as a person. I love sharing a little bit of my life with you so that you feel like you know me when we have a session together! I’ve had many clients follow me on Instagram for years and when we finally meet they ask me how my children are and it is like catching up with an old friend!

Training can often be overlooked in the newborn photography world and it really shouldn’t be, even if it is a natural photography style. It is important for a newborn photographer to know how to safely pose a baby, what the temperature of the room should be and how to safely hold a baby. There are many very experienced, world renowned newborn photographers who give training on how to safely pose a baby. The newborn photography industry is unregulated so it is important to do your own research and make sure your photographer is trained, insured and has lots of experience with newborns. Newborn photography is a specific niche of photography that only a professional can do; a baby’s safety is not to be taken lightly.
