Last Minute Newborn Photography

Can I Still Have A Last Minute Newborn Photography Session Even Though My Baby is Older?

So many newborn photographers recommend booking a newborn photography session when you are 12-20 weeks pregnant as they get booked up quickly but what if you didn’t even think about it until baby was here? Or you simply didn’t want to because you were slightly superstitious about it? Then baby arrived and it was a whirlwind of chaos, spit up and sleepless nights and the weeks got away from you? Are you worried you still can’t have a newborn session? Here’s why you still can have a newborn photography session even if your newborn is a few weeks old or more:

1.) Natural lifestyle photography is amazing for any age!

Seriously, when I did posed newborn photography I hated photographing babies older than 3 weeks as they were more awake and didn’t like doing all the little poses. However, now that my sessions are entirely baby led and I only do natural posing? I love photographing any age and it is always worth fitting in last minute sessions! I adore capturing little expressions that two month olds make and when they start chewing on their hands. The little smiles that start around 6 weeks old are just so precious! Every age is so special as they are now! There is no age that is less than and I think we should always be documenting our little ones, especially as a family!

2.) I will always try to fit in last minute photography bookings!

If I can fit you in, I will! I adore my job and some may call be a workaholic (cough, cough my husband)! But honestly, it is always worth trying to book a newborn photography session last minute so you don’t miss out on the amazing memories that you can pass down to your children. They won’t remember what kind of cot or pram they had but they will always have the photos of them to cherish forever and show their own children one day. Photos only gain value with time whereas the latest gadget like an iPhone or even a car will depreciate in value.

3.) You won’t regret capturing the memories, no matter how old baby is.

I think sometimes newborn photographers put pressure on the timeframe because capturing baby under two weeks old does make their lives easier (newborns tend to sleep more) and it makes for easier posing. It is also nice to capture baby at their tiniest so you have a beautiful record of that. But is it essential? Nope. Would you rather wait a few weeks to settle into breastfeeding and get to know baby before you rush off to a newborn photography studio? That’s okay! Capturing an older newborn session is fun as they make lots of smiley, goofy faces. You should never fear missing the perfect age window for newborn photography. Also, if you feel less stressed and more comfortable, the images will be better. Beautiful memories are captured at any age and it is better to capture baby than not capture them at all!
