I must admit, before I was a mother I shied away from taking images of my breastfeeding clients during my newborn photography sessions in Southampton. I was either too scared to ask or not sure if clients wanted them. I didn’t understand the immense connection that is created by breastfeeding and having a different viewpoint on breastfeeding would have helped me further understand this.
But then I had my own child and realised just how important it is for new mothers to capture such an amazing memory and keep it with them for many years to come.
When your child is all grown up and moved out, you will remember how you sustained them and created an immense and beautiful connection with them as you nurtured them.

For me, breastfeeding images offer the chance to capture the amazing gift that you can offer to your baby as a mother. Sustaining and nurturing them. The bond you create with skin to skin and feeding your child through many sleepless nights helps to build and deepen the incredible connection between mother and child. It is so important to normalise breastfeeding and by being a family and newborn photographer in Southampton I can do my teeny tiny bit to help that. Since having a child, my attitude towards the appreciation of mothers and feeding their child has completely changed and I’m just in awe of mothers! I shouldn’t have needed to become a mother to understand this but unfortunately I was surrounded by old attitudes towards breastfeeding! The Southampton Breastfeeding Network is trying to change this old attitude by placing their stickers in local shops and cafes that say they are a safe breastfeeding space.

As a mother, I find it so important to capture motherhood. There truly is no bond like mother and child and I love witnessing it!
